High-surf advisory issued for east-facing shores

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high-surf advisory for east-facing shores on all islands except Ni'ihau and Kaho'olawe.

A swell generated by a distant shore will arrive today, with surf building to the advisory level by this afternoon along shores that face east.

Surf generated by the swell, from the north-northeast, is expected to drop below the 8-foot advisory level by tomorrow afternoon.

Elsewhere today, the surf is expected to increase to 6 to 8 feet along north-facing shores, decrease to 2 feet or less along south-facing shores and drop to 1 to 3 feet along west-facing shores.

A larger west-northwest swell will arrive tomorrow, causing surf to rise near the advisory level of 15 feet for north-facing shores through Sunday.
