Hollywood and haute couture are often paired in their portrayal of a glamorous lifestyle to which mere mortals may aspire. Scarlett Johansson is the face of Louis Vuitton, and now another hot young Hollywood star, Keira Knightley, is the face of Coco Mademoiselle, one of Chanel's most popular fragrances.

Knightley is the star of a Chanel short film directed by Joe Wright, who also directed her in "Pride and Prejudice." See it online at www.coco-mademoiselle.com. In the film and ad campaign, Knightley wears two white gold and diamond necklaces from the "Coco a Venise" collection. For daytime, she wears one wrapped around her ankle as an accessory to a man's white shirt. For evening, she wears one around her throat with a stunning red haute couture gown. With the gown she is also seen wearing the "Dentelle de Camelia" white gold and diamond cuff, valued at $240,000.

Island folks can see the film's fabulous jewelry in person: Along with about 17 other sparkling pieces, the dazzlers Knightley wore will be on view today through Sunday at the Chanel Waikiki boutique.

A little out of your budget? Oh, well, it's fun just to look.

VALERIE JOSEPH

The Valerie Joseph Boutique in the McCully Shopping Center has become a popular shopping ground. The store's philosophy, "life is short, buy cute clothes," has become infectious. Now Joseph is expanding to a second location in the Ward Entertainment Center.

The new store, which is larger than the first, will carry some different merchandise. Mondo men's wear will provide offerings for the other gender. A larger selection of the Valerie Joseph private label, which is primarily featured online, will be offered at the new location.

The boutique opens Monday, with a grand-opening celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 6.

PERSIMMON BOUTIQUE

Another popular boutique owner, Kenya Holmes, is opening a second location of the Persimmon Boutique on the Big Island at the Waikoloa Beach Resort's new Queens' MarketPlace. Her first boutique is in Hawi.

Holmes, who does her buying in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, offers an eclectic mix of plus-size clothing, yoga wear, evening dresses and difficult-to-find lines such as Ella Moss, Trina Turk, Hard Tail, Level 99 jeans, AG denim, Hazel, Kim White handbags, Billy Blues, LA Made, Putumayo and Mary Green lingerie.

She also carries local clothing designers Fighting Eel and Indah Clothing and local jewelry designers Ginger 13 (O'ahu) and Golden Child (Maui).

A new lifestyle addition is Toss, a line of specialty items that includes cocktail shakers, appetizer plates and luggage in funky prints.

The boutique opens next week, and there will be a grand-opening celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15, with music, food, door prizes and champagne.

GABBY BELLA SHOW

Los Angeles jewelry designer Gabby Bella will make her first appearance in Honolulu at a trunk show this weekend at Cottage by the Sea in Ward Warehouse.

Her line is light and airy, featuring colorful stones with either silver or gold wire. Ideal for layering, the whimsical pieces are all one of a kind.

The trunk show will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday; free muffins and cupcakes will be served.

GLOBAL VILLAGE

Kailua's Global Village is celebrating its 12th anniversary with a Zenful Night, from 5 to 9 tonight. Free Chi cocktails and pupu will be served from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In keeping with the theme, there will also be free henna tattoos and Tarot card readings. Gifts with purchase will be offered.
