Disney's "The Lion King," creeping into the Blaisdell Concert Hall tonight for a 12-week run, is theme-park wonderment packaged with theatrical wizardry.
If you've never seen an authentic Broadway musical, this is a grand introduction. For 2 hours and 45 minutes, you'll be in a magic kingdom of uncanny creativity and artistry.
You'll see incredible puppets of elephants, gazelles, giraffes, zebras, lions and birds.
You'll meet Rafiki, the shaman; Mufasa, the king; Simba, the would-be king; Scar, the power-hungry antagonist; Timor and Pumbaa, the meerkat and warthog; and more.
So is "The Lion King" sold out?
No, says presenter Jack G. Lucas, of Spokane-based WestCoast Entertainment, here for the show's launch.
"We still have prime seats in all categories," he said. "In a show like this, the thing you fight is the notion that we're sold out. That's not the case."
Best available seats: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. And seats still are available for this weekend.
Are babies allowed? "Everyone through the gate needs a ticket," he said. While infants are not encouraged (they cry, remember?), they will not be banned.
