Intersections to get redesign

The state has released $346,000 for the design of improvements at two intersections on Kuhio Highway in Lihu'e intended to help alleviate traffic congestion.

At Kuhio Highway and Eha Street: The project will extend the right lane in the northbound direction on Kuhio Highway and convert it into a dedicated right-turn lane at the intersection by Wilcox Memorial Hospital.

At Kuhio Highway and Kapule Highway: An additional left-turn lane is planned on Kuhio Highway in the northbound direction.

Total cost of the project is estimated at $5.46 million. Design is expected to be done in late 2008. Construction will begin in 2009.
