Ching's 64 leads OCC Invitational

Alex Ching fired a 7-under-par 64 yesterday to take a two-stroke lead after the opening round of the OCC Men's Invitational at the Oahu Country Club course.

Lorens Chan and Doug Williams were at 66, while former champion Brandan Kop is at 67.

The field will be cut to the low 30 scores and ties following today's second round for tomorrow's final round.

In the Senior (55 and older) Division, Ron Reeves shot a 73 for a two-stroke lead over Glenn Shea, Phil Anamizu, Jim Ono and Daniel Park, heading into today's final round.

RAINBOW WAHINE'S BIHAG ADVANCES

After a first-round bye, the University of Hawai'i's Chloe Bihag defeated Loyola Marymount's Audrey Bulkey, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, yesterday to advance to the round of 32s in the Wilson/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Western Regional at San Diego.

Three other Rainbow Wahine — Sophie Kobuch, Julia Sanborn and Marie Tanaka — lost in the first round.

In doubles, Bihag and Kobuch had a first-round bye. They will play the top-seeded team of Riza Zalameda and Yasmin Schnack from UCLA in today's second round.
