A 35-year-old Australian woman has been sentenced to almost 10 years in prison in Hawai'i after being convicted on federal drug trafficking and money laundering charges.

Ai Hang Thi Hyde, also known as Kim Hyde, also was ordered to forfeit more than $1 million in proceeds and property used as part of her criminal activities.

U.S. Attorney Ed Kubo said Hyde arranged for co-conspirators to receive packages containing crystal methamphetamine sent from California and also brought pounds of the drug and illegal currency on trips to and from Hawai'i.

She also used sophisticated financial transactions to reinvest her drug profits, Kubo said.

Hyde was sentenced on Friday by U.S. District Judge Helen Gillmor.
