A long list of Hawai'i's best- known artists have donated work for a one-night-only art sale at Nu'uanu Gallery at Marks Garage to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii.
Collectors can choose from works by Masami Teraoka, Dorothy Faison, Lynda Hess, Sanit Khewhok — it's a stellar lineup. Also in the mix are up-and-comers such as Alan Konishi, Elena Nakashima and Mat Kubo (of "Miniature Monuments to Empire" fame).
"I've been donating art to (the Boys & Girls Club) fundraiser for years," said artist John Koga, the behind-the-scenes orchestrator of the Nu'uanu Gallery.
Creating an all-art event at the new Chinatown venue was a natural move.
"A big part of art-making is trying to make statements and make a difference, but this is a way to make a direct donation," Koga said.
Serious collectors will be interested to know that a California gallery owner, who wishes to remain unnamed, has brought in works by some big West Coast names such as Ed Ruscha and Billy Al Bengston.
