Mayor appoints 2 to new agency

Advertiser Staff

Maui Mayor Charmaine Tavares named Cheryl Okuma director and Gregg Kresge deputy director of the new Department of Environment Management.

Okuma held several Honolulu city posts, including deputy director of wastewater management/environmental services. Kresge has a background in environmental management and worked on the Kaho'olawe ordnance cleanup.

The county Department of Public Works and Environmental Management will be split effective July 1, with one agency overseeing highways and building, housing and subdivision codes, and the other managing solid-waste and wastewater operations.
