'EWA BEACH
Sewage talk coming to 'Ewa

Advertiser Staff

The city will hold a community meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the 'Ewa Beach Public Library to give an overview of O'ahu's wastewater treatment system. Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is expected to attend.

One topic will be the city's request to allow its Honouliuli and Sand Island plants to operate with waivers from full secondary-treatment requirements. The Environmental Protection Agency said in March that it was tentatively denying the city's waiver for Honouliuli and could do the same at Sand Island. The city said the decision could cost taxpayers $1.2 billion in unnecessary expenses.
