Hilo Hattie CFO to join HPU

Kenneth Uemura will join Hawai'i Pacific University as vice president and chief financial officer effective April 1, HPU announced yesterday.

Uemura currently works as chief financial officer, treasurer and corporate secretary of Pomare Ltd., which is better known as the local apparel store, Hilo Hattie.

Before joining Pomare, Uemura served as senior vice president and controller for C. Brewer & Co., and was chief executive officer for Jas. W. Glover Holding Co.


WAL-MART BONUS MADE PUBLIC

Wal-Mart made its annual bonus for store employees public for the first time in two decades yesterday, saying that about 80 percent of hourly workers in its stores would split more than a half-billion dollars.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is the target of union-backed critics who decry its pay and benefits. Based on the numbers the Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart released, the mathematical average payment would be $651 per worker.


AIRPORTS LOBBY FOR FEE INCREASE

ATLANTA — If the nation's airports get their way, the price of flying will increase further this fall as they push for higher boarding fees — up to $7.50 per ticket — used to fund airport improvements. The Federal Aviation Administration is asking Congress to increase the "Passenger Facility Charge" by $1.50 to $6, but airports want the fee doubled to $7.50.
