Kanoa Doblin, a Kailua resident and student at Honolulu Waldorf School in Kahala, has won an online music contest for Sprite.

The soft-drink company was looking for a soundtrack to accompany new Sprite television ads featuring basketball star and Cleveland Cavalier LeBron James. As his prize, Doblin will head to a Los Angeles recording studio and meet James.

Doblin composed his urban sound using Apple's GarageBand software, which he got "totally hooked on" about 18 months ago.

"For me, this and basketball help vent out anything in my life. It allows me to explore new horizons," he said.

To hear Doblin's music set to an ad, featuring James in a surreal game of paintball, go to www.lebron23-23.com. Click on "eternallyballn," Doblin's DJ name. Doblin was one of 6,000 people who submitted entries when the campaign launched in January. The winner was chosen by public vote.
