Senior tennis off to nationals

Seven senior teams advanced to the national championship round of the largest adult recreational tennis league in the world by winning the United States Tennis Association League Hawai'i Section Championships last month on Kaua'i.

The teams will represent the Hawai'i Pacific Section at the USTA League Tennis National Championships, where the No. 1 recreational tennis team in the country will be crowned.

The championships are being held in the following locations: 3.0 senior, Oct. 26 to 28 at Indian Wells, Calif.; 3.5 senior, Oct. 19 to 21 at Tucson, Ariz.; 4.0 senior, Oct. 12 to 14 at Tucson, Ariz.; 4.5 senior, Oct. 19 to 21 at Indian Wells, Calif..

THE HAWAI'I SENIOR TEAMS, WITH TEAM CAPTAINS, ARE:

WOMEN

3.0: Maui-Na Ipo O Maui, Maui (Sally Soliven). 3.5: Na Koa, O'ahu (Ruth Nihei). 4.0: Stafford's, O'ahu (Kathi Graham). 4.5: Hawai'i Hot Flashes, O'ahu (Lurline Fujii).

MEN

3.0: Tamura Super, O'ahu (Gaylord Nishimura). 3.5: Baby Boomers, O'ahu (Darwin Abenoja). 4.0: Old A Seniors, O'ahu (Scott Woodman).
