TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board," 8 p.m., Disney Channel. In the 1999 "Johnny Tsunami," Brandon Baker played an easygoing Hawaiian who moves to Vermont ski country. Now the process is reversed: He moves back to Hawai'i (although the movie was actually filmed in New Zealand). Alas, life has changed there. Teens are busy "dirtboarding," riding hardy skateboards intended for rugged terrain. And family life has changed. His grandfather - a surf legend played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa - is marrying a young woman (played by Robyn Lively, 34) who has a son; Johnny will soon have a 12-year-old uncle. That provides the core: A decent guy tries to help his pouting uncle. That's contrived at times. Fortunately, the film is dressed up with flashy action, pop music and pretty scenery.

"Standoff," 8 p.m., Fox. After months on the shelf, this fairly good series returns. Ron Livingston and Rosemarie DeWitt play lovers who are crisis negotiators. Tonight, a customs agent takes hostages.

OF NOTE

"Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide to Field Trips, Permission Slips, Signs and Weasels," 5 and 6 p.m., Nickelodeon. The "Ned" series gets a special-length, action comedy, as the school takes a field trip. That happens just as Ned is torn by romantic indecision. Savage Steve Holland, the film's director, gives this his usual zestful, high-energy look. The script is OK; the acting isn't. Devon Werkheiser and Lindsey Shaw are fine as Ned and Moze, but some of the other kids and most of the adults overact outrageously.

"My Daddy the Crocodile Hunter," 6 p.m., Animal Planet. This is one of several shows that will star 8-year-old Bindi Irwin. Here, she talks about her late father Steve Irwin and shows clips.

"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. Melinda is away, so her husband deals with a ghost and a mystery.

"Bones," 7 p.m., Fox. This enjoyable show slides to Fridays. Tonight, the body of a pregnant woman washes ashore. Her husband, who has a girlfriend, disappears.

"Close to Home," 8 p.m., CBS. Who can resist a PTA murder mystery? This one has a PTA member accused of killing during an art auction.

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 8 p.m., NBC. The murder victim was a pregnant Pakistani woman who had been dating an Italian man. Police try to learn if racial bias was a factor.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. A man has been killed, shortly after a TV show identified him as a pedophile.

"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. This is the episode CBS scheduled for last week, before switching. Men are apparently being killed after being lured by a Web site that promises sex with an underage girl.
