 Brown's Eno gets academic award

Brown junior outfielder/designated hitter J.J. Eno was named a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine second-team Academic All-American.

Eno, a 2004 Baldwin graduate, earned a 3.73 grade point average in neuroscience. He batted .300, scoring 16 runs and collecting 10 RBIs.

Eno will graduate into Brown's Warren Alpert Medical School as a member of the University's Program in Liberal Medical Education.

Eno is Brown's first Academic All-American since 1987.

WOMEN'S WATER POLO

  • Long Beach State sophomore utility Keala O'Sullivan (Kamehameha '05) and UC Santa Barbara senior attacker Allison Carkin (Mid-Pacific of Kailua) were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic team.

    O'Sullivan, who earned a 3.48 GPA, is undecided in her major. Carkin had a 3.52 GPA in Law & Society.

    MORE BASEBALL

  • Creighton junior infielder Michael Lam (Punahou '04) was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first team.

    Lam earned a 3.61 GPA in biology/pre-med.

    SAILING

  • Southern California sophomore Denise Kobashikawa (Maryknoll '05) helped the Trojans to their first Pac-10 Championship May 13.

    Kobashikawa, the coxswain, led her crew to a third-place finish in the second varsity eight grand final (6:59.30).

    USC came in fifth at the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships May 27. Kobashikawa's crew won the second eights petite final (6:58.34).

  • UC Irvine senior William Pochereva (Punahou '03) skippered UCI's B team to a fourth-place finish at the ISCA/GILL Coed Dinghy Nationals May 30 to June 1.

    The B division crew scored 111 points toward the team total of 237.

    Two other sailors from Hawai'i competed for Navy, which finished ninth: Martin Sterling (Maryknoll '05) and Tina Bryne (Sacred Hearts).

    WOMEN'S TENNIS

  • Chabot College's (Hayward, Calif.) Tiffany Villanueva (Leilehua) was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association Player of the year for California Community Colleges. Villanueva was also an All-American in singles and doubles.

    Villanueva was also an all-Coast Conference selection and was named the team's co-MVP.

    TRACK AND FIELD

  • California sophomore Fran Weems (Kealakehe '05 of Kailua, Kona) was named to the Pac-10 Conference All-Academic second team.

    Weems earned a 3.70 GPA in mass communications.

    Washington sophomore Daniel Te'o-Nesheim (Hawai'i Prep '05) was an honorable-mention pick.

    MEN'S VOLLEYBALL

  • Pepperdine senior outside hitter Jon Grobe ('Iolani '02 of Kane'ohe) and Cal State Northridge junior libero Isaac Kneubuhl (Kamehameha '03 of Pukalani, Maui) were selected to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Academic All-Conference team.

    Grobe earned a 3.20 GPA in political science and Kneubuhl a 3.60 in kinesiology.

    WOMEN'S GOLF

  • Southern California sophomore Shelcie Takenouchi (Kaua'i '05 of Lihu'e) was omitted from a list of names of collegiate golfers on the Mainland.

    Takenouchi had an average score of 82.67.
