Some folks celebrate a big birthday with a big bash. Others turn it into a reunion. Still others challenge their bodies to do something to defy their age. Dancer and designer Pam Sandridge, who turns the big 6-0 on Sunday, is doing all of the above.

Sandridge, a dance instructor for 40 years, has put out a reunion call to all of her former dancers to stage the finale of a dance and fashion extravaganza that will celebrate her decades as a dancer and her new career as a designer of hand-knit shrugs and shrawls (flirty little cover-ups ideal for air-conditioned evenings out in Honolulu).

The celebration will feature lighting by Bob Harmon of Eggshell Lighting and a film edited by Neal Izumi that features performances by Sandridge's former dance companies: The Jazz Factory, Kamehameha Dance Theatre and Big City Productions.

The Shrug Queen show will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Cupola in the Honolulu Design Center. The event is free and open to the public.

A SAVIOR FOR SUN-DAMAGED HAIR

Laurie Momi Chee, designer of Lily Lotus active wear, will hold a trunk show with Alliway Jewelry and MiuArtworks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Coffee Talk Café in Kaimuki.

The event will introduce the new fall line from Lily Lotus, a collection of separates made from sustainable, eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton and bamboo.

LANIKAI BATH & BODY CELEBRATES A PRINCESS

Lanikai Bath & Body has just introduced a new line of products for the home with the fragrance of pikake. It includes pikake mist, hand soap and hand sanitizer. The line is crafted and named in honor of Princess Ka'iulani's favorite scent.

Company co-owner Gloria Garvey said Lanikai has also reformulated its products to be natural, without chemicals or paraben fillers.

ANNE NAMBA SHOWS AT LA PIETRA

As La Pietra hosts its fundraiser "Art on the Lawn," featuring work by some of Hawai'i's premier artists, including Jodi Endicott, Pegge Hopper, Roger Whitlock and George Woollard, another artist, fashion designer Anne Namba, will show her fall collection.

The fashion show will be held on the lawn at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow, on the grounds of La Pietra. The event is free and open to the public.

TRUNK SHOW TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

A hui of Maui folks is putting together a trunk show of fashions and jewelry that will benefit 6-year-old Jacqueline Wenzler-Steves, who suffers from Ewing's sarcoma, a form of bone cancer. She is the daughter of Lahaina firefighter Vince Steves.

Golden Child Jewelry by Maui artisan Andrea Akeo will be shown along with Q by Douie, a line of imported cotton separates from Israel.

Epitome, a Lahaina boutique, will host the evening, while Mala Ocean Tavern is the sponsor. The event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 3 in Epitome, 1087 Limahana Place, Lahaina. Information: 808-661-6270.
