Five golfers with Hawai'i ties, including medalist Kimberly Kim, advanced to match play of the U.S. Girls' Junior Championship yesterday at Augusta, Ga.

Kim, a 15-year-old former Hilo resident now living in Arizona, shot even-par 72 in the second round to take stroke play honors at 10-under 134.

The top 64 golfers advanced to today's first round of match play.

Other Hawai'i golfers who advanced were Stephanie Kono, Cyd Okino, Elyse Okada and Ayaka Kaneko.

Ha Na Jang of Korea shot the low round of the day (67) and was two strokes back of Kim. Mina Harigae, of Monterey, Calif, was three strokes back after a 69.

Kim, who shot a tournament record-tying, bogey-free 62 on Monday, had a roller-coaster round yesterday with seven birdies, five bogeys and a double-bogey at the Tacoma Country & Golf Club.

Kim will open against 64th-seed Amy Ruengmateekhun, of Garland, Texas, today.

Kono, of Honolulu, shot a 76 and was tied for 25th at 145. Okino, also of Honolulu, shot a 74 and was tied for 38th at 147. Okada, of Kahului, Maui, was tied for 43rd at 148 after a 76. Kaneko, of Honolulu, was tied for 51st at 150 after a 76.

Wailuku, Maui's Kyung Kim shot an 80 and finished tied for 130th at 161. The cut was at 151.

At U.S. Junior Amateur in Augusta, Mo., Hawai'i's two golfers were eliminated in stroke play.

Lorens Chan of Honolulu shot a 6-over 77 and finished at 11-over 153. T.J. Kua of Lihu'e shot a 78 and finished at 156. The cut was at 151.

Seung Yul Noh of Korea was the stroke-play medalist at 136 after a 67 yesterday.
