HONOLULU
NIMITZ HIGHWAY TO GET RESURFACED
The state will begin a year-long resurfacing project along Nimitz Highway on Monday, in part to repair rutting, particularly in the bus lane.
The $12.5 million project will continue previous work along Nimitz Highway and span a 1.6-mile strip from Fort Street down Nimitz Highway/Ala Moana Boulevard to Pi'ikoi Street.
Most of the work will be done at night, between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. from Sunday night to Friday morning.
Until April, the construction may close one lane in each direction as workers dig trenches and install street lights near Fort Street.
In mid-April, the state will begin replacing concrete bus stop pads along Ala Moana, which will require 24-hour weekend closures for 12 weekends.
