Ko'olau Golf Club in Kane'ohe is the only Hawai'i course in Golf Digest's resurrected list of "America's 50 Toughest Golf Courses." The story is in the March issue.

The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, S.C., designed by Pete Dye, is "the nation's toughest course." According to the U.S. Golf Association, it has the highest combination of Slope Rating (155) and Course Rating (79.6) of any golf course in the country.

Ko'olau is ranked third, with a slope of 162 and course rating of 76.4 from the back tees.

Rounding out the top 10 are The International (The Pines) at second, PGA West (Stadium Course) fourth, followed by Oakmont Country Club, Bethpage State Park Golf Courses (Black), Tot Hill Farm Golf Club, Whistling Straits (Straits), Pine Valley Golf Club and Tobacco Road Golf Club.

Dye designed eight of the 50 courses, and 32 are open to the public. The list was determined by Golf Digest editors who have played and been "battered and bruised" by all the courses in the ranking.
