Soon after Carrie Underwood hit the red carpet Sunday, she knew the Grammys would be like no other awards show she's attended.
"The Red Hot Chili Peppers were spraying Silly String everywhere, and I don't think you'd see that at the CMAs," she said. "It's just crazy. Everybody is yelling and it's L.A."
Underwood, wore two Badgley Mischka dresses — a silver one, which draped in the front, on the red carpet and another one onstage. "It's real comfortable. I consider myself to be a normally built girl, and this thing in front hides everything, and it's gorgeous."
She wore Johnathon Arndt diamonds, including a $2.8 million ring on her right hand. "It's amazing; I feel like a princess. Everybody gets you ready and gets you looking pretty. That sets the night off right."
Underwood was among the women who chose an elegant look.
Mary J. Blige was also resplendent in a gold sequined Michael Kors dress with a silver belt, which she says she chose because it was "classy, comfortable and shiny."
Shakira wore a red strapless Caroline Herrera gown, while Hilary Duff and Christina Ricci opted for Dolce and Gabbana.
Nelly Furtado wore Roberto Cavalli, and India.Arie donned a short olive dress made by "my mom, as always."
LeAnn Rimes wore a long eggplant-colored Monique Lhuillier that featured turquoise stones on the beaded waist. "I loved the turquoise. I thought it was sexy and comfortable, which is the most important thing. I just felt really beautiful in it.
"The Grammys allow you to have a little more fun, when it comes to what you wear," Rimes said. "There are so many different genres of music, so many different styles. For me, I always want to be classy and beautiful, but there's a bit of a sexiness that you have here."
