GOING VEGAS
NBA's best coming for All-Star gig

By Anthony Curtis

With the Super Bowl weekend now in the books, Las Vegas is gearing up for All-Star Weekend which goes into full swing midweek with events and promotions surrounding next Sunday's National Basketball Association All-Star Game, to be played for the first time in Las Vegas. The Cavaliers' LeBron James will be at the Hard Rock on Thursday, the Heat's Dwayne Wade will be at Rumjungle (Mandalay Bay) on Friday, the Nuggets' Allen Iverson will be at Studio 54 (MGM Grand) on Saturday, and so forth. Plus, a full slate of big-name entertainers will perform around the city. But while it's come-one-come-all for the peripheral events, the game itself is sold out.

SPECIAL BEDS: In an All-Star aside, all of the players will stay at the Palms, in order to take advantage of the casino's big-man-friendly beds. The Palms had them installed to accommodate visits from members of the Sacramento Kings; the team is owned by the casino's owners, Joe and Gavin Maloof.

MEGA PENNIES: A resident of Pahrump, Nev., has set the record for the largest jackpot on a penny slot machine by hitting Penny Megabucks at Čthe Pahrump Nugget for $18,799,414. The previous record for pennies was a paltry (by comparison) $3 million.
