ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Romance, John Waters-style

Advertiser Staff and News Services

What would a romantic evening out with gross-out cult film director John Waters ("Pink Flamingos," "Hairspray") be like? Pink flamingos? Scratch-n-sniff Odorama cards? Lots of hair spray? Who knows? The mix CD "A Date With John Waters," out today on New Line Records, provides a glimpse. Among its out and loud pleasures: Josie Cotton's up-front "Johnny Are You Queer?", Ray Charles' p.m. salacious "Night Time is the Right Time," and Elton Motello's gay punk anthem "Jet Boy Jet Girl." For $13.98, it's truly "Divine" stuff.

PROM PREP

GIRLS JUST WANT DRESS DEALS

Looking for a good deal on that perfect prom dress? Think recycled. The second annual Girls Just Wanna Have Fun event, which offers discounted, pre-owned prom dresses as well as raffles and refreshments, will be held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at La Pietra. And it's for a good cause, too: Last year, the fundraiser collected thousands for the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse. Information on the event: Saoirse McCaig or Nanci Kreidman, 534-0040.
