Apple to open outlet in Kahala

Apple Inc.'s second Hawai'i retail store is scheduled to open Saturday at Kahala Mall, according to the company's Web site.

The store is slated to open at 10 a.m. with product giveaways and a week of free workshops and presentations.

The first 1,000 visitors to the store will receive a free Apple T-shirt. The company also is holding a drawing to win a merchandise package that is valued at $2,574 and includes a MacBook, iPod nano and iPod Hi-Fi.

Normal store hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.


NEW TENANTS AT KOKO MARINA

A Honolulu City & County Employees Federal Credit Union is among several new tenants planning to open over the next several months at Koko Marina Center in Hawai'i Kai.

The credit union branch opening in July will join a UPS Store slated to open in the next few months, and children's apparel retailer Butterflies and Bullfrogs opening later this month, according to the shopping center's leasing agent, Sofos Realty Corp.

Recent new tenants since December were Kahu Waiwai Sports Fishing, Koko Head Triathlon and Split Obsession, a retailer of fashion apparel, designer toys and art.


NONSTOP AIRLINE SEATS ON THE RISE

The number of scheduled, nonstop airline seats to Hawai'i from February to April is expected to be up 1 percent compared with the same time last year, according to an analysis by the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.

The state forecasts Mainland airline seats to be down slightly by 0.7 percent, with a nearly 16 percent drop in seats from the U.S. East. International airline seats, however, are expected to be up 5.3 percent. Seats from Japan are up 4.7 percent, and seats from Canada are up 12 percent.


A&B GIVES $2M TO NONPROFITS

The Alexander & Baldwin Foundation said it donated nearly $2 million to local and Mainland nonprofit organizations in 2006.

The foundation, which is funded by Alexander & Baldwin Inc. and its subsidiaries, said in a news release today that it contributed $1.5 million to local charities last year and $390,000 to Mainland nonprofit organizations.
