Defending champ opens with University

Two-time defending state girls volleyball champion Kamehameha opens the fall prep volleyball season against University tonight at 6 p.m. at Kekuhaupi'o Gym. Kamehameha, ranked fifth in the PrepVolleyball.com's national preseason poll, is led by Advertiser Player of the Year Kanani Herring and won the Ann Kang Invitational on Aug. 18.

Also opening the Interscholastic League of Honolulu season is state runner-up Punahou, which hosts Le Jardin. 'Iolani, ranked 26th in the preseason poll, hosts Division II state runner-up Word of Life. Defending state D-II champion Sacred Hearts, now competing in Division I, hosts Hawai'i Baptist.

Defending O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion Roosevelt hosts Kailua, while OIA runner-up Moanalua hosts Kalani. New to the OIA this season is a blue division, which will serve as a developmental league for players.
