Friday is the early reservations deadline (reduced registration fee) for Chaminade University Tax Foundation's fourth annual Nonprofit Organization Seminar. The Wednesday grand opening of the new SENOR FROG'S restaurant in the renovated Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center will benefit Hawai'i Meals on Wheels, the budget-strapped organization that provides delivered hot meal service for homebound frail elderly and disabled. The benefit grand opening is scheduled 7 p.m. to midnight (restaurant open to 4 a.m. for late night dining, cocktails and dancing). Donation: $25 (pre-sale, or as available at the door; minors accompanied by adult free/limit two children.) Entertainment by Vaihi, Ooklah the Moc, and an appearance by Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman, mariachi band, and other special guests — as well as giveaways and raffle. Officials from the state Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs will outline various investment scams — including Ponzi schemes, variable annuity sales practices and scams aimed at the elderly — in a speech Wednesday at the Kahala Nui senior living community. What high-tech companies — and others — need to know to move into commercial real estate will be covered in a workshop, "THE A-B-C's OF LEASING COMMERCIAL OFFICE SPACE," sponsored by the High Technology Development Corp. A workshop on improving cultural sensitivity from a Filipino perspective will be offered this week on Maui, sponsored by the Filipino Working Group, an organization of Maui Filipina professionals. The workshop, "Improving Cultural Competency," is aimed at the academic world (school professionals, students and parents), social and healthcare workers, clergy, legal/justice system workers, policymakers and elected officials, administrators, grass-roots organizations, artists, activists, and other Asian and Pacific islanders. Among participants will be civil rights activist Amy Agbayani, of the University of Hawai'i.
