NIU VALLEY
Sewer work progressing

Advertiser Staff

The city will connect the new underground sewer lines to the Niu Valley force main late next month and remove the above-ground sewer pipe by the end of November, said Craig Nishimura, city deputy director of design and construction.

The underground sewer pipe burst in the same spot three times in one month in 2005, forcing the city to erect a 3,300-foot-long above-ground pipe from Niu Valley to Kawaikui Beach Park on Kalaniana'ole Highway.

Work on the permanent underground lines began in January.

The park bathroom renovations are complete, and the fencing should be removed Nov. 1, Nishimura said.
