HPD to mark 75th birthday

The Honolulu Police Department will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a community fair on Saturday at the Frank F. Fasi Civic Grounds.

The event, which is free and open to the public, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature food booths, keiki rides, educational lectures and a chance for people to see the department's helicopter, command truck and canine unit.

Society of Seven Las Vegas, Touch of Gold and the Royal Hawaiian Band will perform.

The department was established through a territorial legislative mandate in 1932.
