HGEA members ratify contract

Six of the Hawaii Government Employees Association's seven bargaining units have voted to ratify a new two-year contract, the union said yesterday.
The contract for Units 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 13 will give 4 percent annual pay raises to those units' 26,435 members.
Workers also will get increases for cost items such as meals, night differential and travel per diem.
The contract covers white-collar supervisory and non-supervisory workers, blue-collar supervisory employees, educational officers, University of Hawai'i administrative, professional and technical staff, and professional and scientific employees.
HGEA Unit 9, which represents nurses, is in a separate arbitration process.
CREDIT UNION TARGET OF SCAM
Hawaii Central Credit Union is taking steps to mitigate potential problems from a phishing e-mail targeting its members.
The credit union was the target of a bogus e-mail effort for the first time as an e-mail made its way into electronic mailboxes today. It offers members $100 for taking a survey. People clicking on the link are taken to a Web site that asks them to give their account number and passwords as well as credit card number, verification number and expiration date.
The credit union posted a message on its Web site saying it does not send unsolicited e-mails to members.
HORIZON RAISING FUEL SURCHARGE
Horizon Lines LLC said it will increase its fuel surcharge for shipments on its Hawai'i and Guam routes by 1.25 percentage points.
The state's second-largest shipping company said that starting May 6 its fuel surcharge will increase from 19.5 percent to 20.75 percent.
According to Horizon, fuel prices have been rising since mid-March and are not expected to decrease through midyear.
