A man who was killed in a motorcycle accident Saturday night on Hale'iwa Road on the North Shore has been identified by the Medical Examiner's Office as Valaile Fuiava Jr., 55, of Waialua.

Fuiava was killed at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday after his 2006 motorcycle was rear-ended by a speeding sedan and he was dragged about 500 feet along Hale'iwa Road, police said yesterday.

He was thrown from his motorcycle near Smiley Place and dragged underneath the 1992 sedan driven by a 26-year-old woman from Kapolei, police said. The woman's car eventually ran into a roadside barrier and overturned.

Fuiava suffered massive injuries and died at the scene. The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.

A motorcycle helmet was found near the scene, but it was unclear whether Fuiava was wearing it at the time of the collision, police said. It also was unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident. But police said the sedan was speeding when it hit the motorcycle.

Fuiava's death was the 25th traffic fatality on O'ahu this year, compared with 23 at this time in 2006.
