TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
" 'Til Death" debut, 7 p.m., Fox. In a TV landscape filled with hugs, it's fun to watch couples who can bicker cleverly. From "The Honeymooners" to "Everybody Loves Raymond," they've brought dark humor. Now Brad Garrett — one of the "Raymond" stars — has a fresh version. He and his wife (played by Joely Fisher) are content to slump and squabble. They're experts on each other's faults. Then newlyweds (Eddie Kaye Thomas and Kat Foster) move next door. There are cliches here but they're handled skillfully. The writing is clever, and Garrett and Fisher are masters of the punch line.
"Happy Hour" debut, 7:30 p.m., Fox. A quiet guy has been dumped by his gorgeous girlfriend. He moves in with a self-proclaimed swinger whose martinis start at 4 p.m. Much of this is bluntly written and poorly executed but there's an exception. Beth Lacke is wonderful as Amanda — brazen one moment, needy the next. Her morning-after scene is hilarious.
OF NOTE
"Where Did It Come From" debut, 5 p.m., History Channel. This series looks at ideas and inventions from long ago. In the opener, we see creations of the ancient Greeks. That includes reproductions of the giant cargo ship Syracusia and of the screw pump, which Archimedes invented to pump water from a ship's hold.
"NFL Opening Kickoff" (7 p.m.) and game (7:30 p.m.), NBC. Things get serious now, with the first pro-football game of the official season. There's a brief warm-up concert with Martina McBride, Rascal Flatts, Diddy and Cassie. Then the Pittsburgh Steelers host the Miami Dolphins. Al Michaels and John Madden call the game but Jerome Bettis — who helped the Steelers win the Super Bowl last year — will be a bystander in the studio.
"Grey's Anatomy," 7 and 8 p.m., ABC. The first rerun goes way back to the arrival of Addison, who's still married to Derek. The second has Burke caring for someone whose music he admires.
"Celebrity Duets," 8 p.m., Fox. With seven contestants left, this show settles into its weekly routine. There will be performances on Thursdays and ousters on Fridays.
