TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"Five Years Later: How Safe Are We?" 9 p.m., CBS. On the second night of her new duties as CBS anchor, Katie Couric adds a prime-time special. Couric was a "Today" host in 2001 when she covered the World Trade Center attacks that transformed her adopted hometown and the world. Here, she looks at the efforts to prevent future terrorism.

"Desire," 7 p.m., myNetworkTV (KFVE). It was almost fatal desire in Tuesday's debut when handsome young Louis was found in bed with a mobster's daughter. He promptly fled to California with his brother and mother. She set them up with restaurant jobs; she didn't tell them that the guy who got them the jobs is the father they've never known. Tonight's episode clumsily juggles drama that's light (both brothers love the owner's daughter) and serious. The mobster's daughter lied and said she was raped; a deadly pursuit begins.

OF NOTE

"Everybody Hates Chris," 4 p.m., UPN (KIKU). Chris hates the fact that his younger brother is bigger, stronger and more popular. Tonight, he tries karate lessons, soon creating a new problem.

"The George Lopez Show," 7 p.m., ABC. This comedy, which is expected to return sometime next season, offers four straight reruns, including a cliffhanger. That's at 8:30 p.m., putting everything in limbo. George's mother flees from police, his wife may be pregnant and their daughter is down to her last hope for college. Oh yes, and there are reports that the factory will leave the country.

"Rock Star: Supernova," 7 p.m., CBS. Another singer is cut, setting up next week's finale.

"Scrubs," 8 and 8:30 p.m., NBC. In the first episode, Cox is despondent and drinking after the deaths of three patients. In the second, he's back, but unsure of himself.

"CSI: NY," 8 p.m., CBS. This rerun airs an hour earlier than usual to make room for the Couric special. The body of a Marine corporal is found in Central Park.

"American Masters: Leonard Bernstein: Reaching for the Note," 9 p.m., PBS. Leonard Bernstein was just 25 in 1943 when he stepped in for the New York Philharmonic's ailing conductor. He soon became a celebrity as a composer ("West Side Story"), conductor and complex personality. This 1998 film profiled him using home movies, TV interviews, letters and more.

"Law & Order," 9 p.m., NBC. An unwed mother is slain and her baby is kidnapped.
