Waipahu slips past Waialua, 29-26

Matt Soueira scored three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with five minutes to play, as Waipahu defeated Waialua, 29-26, in an O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Division semifinal last night at the Marauders' stadium.

Soueira caught scoring passes of 68 and 32 yards from Gilchrist Fernandez in the first half, then ran 13 yards for a touchdown in the final period. Keo Palimo'o ran in the two-point conversion to give the Marauders a 29-26 lead.

Waipahu then clinched the victory when Gordon Cox intercepted Caleb Fore's pass with a minute to play.

Palimo'o rushed 15 times for 121 yards, including a 41-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Fore completed 17 of 30 passes for 200 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed seven times for 68 yards and another score to lead the Bulldogs.

Waipahu advanced to the White championship game against Kaimuki on Nov. 10 at Aloha Stadium.
