TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE
"Conviction," 9 p.m., NBC. As the summer season begins, we can catch some of the shows that slipped by the first time. "Conviction" won't be back in the fall, but it was a fairly interesting-look at young assistant district attorneys. This pilot film starts with Nick Potter (Jordan Bridges), late for his first day of work. The stranger he slept with turned off his alarm. Meanwhile, Christina Finn (Julianne Nicholson) tries her first case. There are some fine moments as she meets an unrelenting judge.
"Ike: Countdown to D-Day" (2004), 6 and 10 p.m., A&E. As Memorial Day weekend begins, we get this surprisingly rich and involving portrait of Gen. Dwight Eisenhower. This film was smartly written by Lionel Chetwynd and directed by Robert Harmon. Tom Selleck — who is profiled at 5 p.m. in "Biography" — looks nothing like Eisenhower, but he seems to inhabit his soul; we get a deep portrait of a caring and determined man.
OF NOTE
"Fargo" (1996), 4 p.m., Bravo. Brilliantly directed and co-written by Joel Coen, "Fargo" beautifully contrasted criminals and the quiet, unruffled manner of many Northerners.
"Freaky Friday" (2003), 7 p.m., ABC. A terrific 1977 movie was remade, becoming a box-office hit. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan play a mother and daughter who inadvertently slip into each other's bodies.
"Mona Lisa Smile" (2003), 7 p.m., Fox. Julia Roberts plays a progressive art teacher in the 1950s, bucking the rigidity of women's roles at Wellesley. Kirsten Dunst and Julia Stiles are among her young students.
"Ghost Whisperer," 7 p.m., CBS. Melinda's husband has been acting strangely in this rerun. She figures that might be related to the anniversary of his father's death.
"Close to Home," 8 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, Melinda feels that some of the evidence in a murder case is way too convenient.
"Las Vegas," 8 p.m., NBC. Just as a tough new boss (Lara Flynn Boyle) takes over in this rerun, there are troubles with counterfeit chips. Meanwhile, Danny is drawn to an attractive real-estate agent (Rachael Leigh Cook). Paul Anka and Dennis Rodman play themselves.
"Numb3rs," 9 p.m., CBS. Someone has been tampering with and poisoning drugs. Don suspects a disgruntled former employee from the pharmaceutical company.
