UH sailors 11th in nationals

The sixth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's sailing team stood in 11th place after the opening round of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Dinghy Championship in Charleston, S.C.

The Rainbow Wahine had 99 points after 10 races, six in A division and four in B division, were completed yesterday in 6- to 10-knot winds under sunny skies on the Cooper River.

UH's Tinja Anderson-Mitterling and Cassie Harris totaled 61 points, good for 12th place in A division. Teammates Shandy Buckley and Crystal Bronte were ninth in B division with 38 points.

Hobart College, of Geneva, N.Y., leads the 18-team fleet with a low-best 58 points, followed by Navy with 59 and Georgetown with 64.

Twenty-six races are scheduled over the next two days.
