Advertiser Staff

The 13th Annual Mufi Hannemann Basketball Jamboree, a showcase for local female hoopsters ranging from 12 years old to college alumnae, is tomorrow at Manoa Gym. Games start at 9 a.m.

Eight teams will compete in each of three divisions (12-under, 14-under and high school/ college alumnae) in the single-elimination tournament. Among the players expected to participate in the High School/College Alumnae Division are former Rainbow Wahine Nani Cockett, Kyla Evers, Lynette Liu, Milia Macfarlane, Ki'i Spencer-Vasconcellos and Melanie Azama, along with prep players, including Honoka'a's Keisha Kanekoa, Punahou's Shawna-Lei and Shaena-Lyn Kuehu, and Konawaena's Jazzmin Awa-Williams and Haunani Liftee.

"This began as a small step toward gender equity, and has, in the years since then, featured just about every top high school and college player in Hawai'i at one time or another," Mayor Hanneman said.

Admission is free. Donations will be accepted, with proceeds benefitting the Hawai'i High School Athletic Association.
