Service set for Sgt. Sakoda

A service for Sgt. Steve Makoto Sakoda, 29, of Hilo, Hawai'i, who died April 29 when a bomb detonated near his convoy vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq, will take place 7 p.m. Friday at Dodo Mortuary.

Visitation will precede the service from 5 to 7 p.m.

A graveside urn committal service will take place 3 p.m. Saturday at Hawai'i Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire is requested.

Sgt. Sakoda served with the U.S. Army, 2nd Platoon, 1-75th Cavalry Squadron, 2nd Brigade, 101st Division at Fort Campbell, Ky.

He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Action Badge.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Castillo Sakoda; sister, Stella Sakoda Hottendorf; and grandparents, Jennie Sakoda and Kimiko Yuasa.
