"Phantom of the Opera" has opened at the Venetian, on the heels of the Cirque du Soleil/Beatles extravaganza, "Love," at the Mirage. It's a mega-tandem for entertainment in the city, however, the scene remains unsettled after the abrupt closings of "Hairspray" and "Avenue Q." Now word comes that Steve Wynn is spending $15.9 million to buy the rights to the Wynn Las Vegas show "Le Rêve," with plans for new visual effects and a revamped choreography. Prices for "Phantom," staged in a new $40 million theater, range from $82 to $157.
OUTSIDE DINING: Mon Ami Gabi is the indoor/outdoor restaurant at Paris Las Vegas. Very French, with classic dishes such as French onion soup, French steak sandwich with frites, crepes and quiche. Lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily; dinner from 4 to 11 p.m. (midnight on the weekends). There's also a comfortable outside bar for drinks and dining. Mon Ami Gabi, also has an outside bar beneath one leg of the Eiffel Tower open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Q. Where can you find a cheap beer on the Strip?
A. Imported beers — Heineken, Amstel and Fosters — for $1.75 each are at Slots A Fun. The real bargain is on draft, with a 12-ounce drink for 75 cents or a 20-ounce for $1.
