RUNNING

90 READY TO ENDURE 100-MILE TRAIL RUN

About 90 athletes are entered in the sixth annual Hawaiian Ultra Running Team 100 Mile Trail Endurance Run scheduled for tomorrow and Sunday in the rainforest above Makiki.

The race features more than 23,000 feet of vertical climb, technical trail conditions and heat and humidity. Fewer than 25 percent finish the grueling run, according to organizers.

The run starts at 6 a.m. tomorrow and has a 6 p.m. cutoff on Sunday.

Elite runners — from Hawai'i, the Mainland, Canada, Europe and South Africa — are trying to be the first to break the 24-hour barrier.
