TRACK & FIELD

UH WOMEN START SEASON SATURDAY

The University of Hawai'i women's track & field team will host the first of nine Sunset Meets at Cooke Field, starting Saturday.

Field events for the open meet will start at 2 p.m., and track events will begin at 4.

Last season, Carmyn James' Rainbow Wahine sent six athletes to the NCAA Outdoor West Regionals at Eugene, Ore.

"We are looking at a top four placement at the conference (WAC) championship and eight NCAA Regional qualifiers," James said in a press release. "With the veterans we have returning along with a great recruiting class, I feel this goal is very attainable."

The top returnees are junior pole vaulter Patricia Gauthier and sophomore shot putter Meghan Weaver. Both qualified for the West Regionals last season.
