West O'ahu manager Layton Aliviado has accepted the Saint Louis junior varsity baseball coaching position, and he said as many as five of his Little League World Series championship players could play for the Crusaders.

Aliviado, 42, said the majority of his 12 Little League players want to play high school baseball and football. Many of his players already play for the Waipi'o Panthers youth football team, Aliviado said.

Aliviado, a 1981 Waipahu graduate, said pitcher-shortstop Myron "Kini" Enos Jr., first baseman-pitcher Layson "Kaeo" Aliviado and pitcher-second baseman Sheyne Baniaga are "going to Saint Louis" and want to play intermediate baseball. Layson is Aliviado's son.

Pitcher-right fielder Quentin Guevara and third baseman-catcher Vonn Fe'ao are both contemplating admission to Saint Louis as well as other schools, Aliviado said.

"Hopefully, Quentin decides to go to Saint Louis, or any private school," Aliviado said. As for Fe'ao, "I think he's going to take the test for Punahou or Saint Louis."

Aliviado said pitcher-third baseman Alaka'i Aglipay "took the test for Iolani, Punahou and Kamehameha."

Aliviado said catcher Michael Memea attends Damien Memorial, center fielder Harrison Kam attends Mid-Pacific Institute and right fielder Ty Tirpak will "probably play for Pac-Five."

Aliviado has coached youth baseball for 18 years, and he said initially he didn't want to coach high school baseball, but changed his mind because he wanted a new perspective. Aliviado said Saint Louis offered him the junior varsity position when he returned home after the World Series.

"I figured the kids are getting older and I felt maybe it's a nice time to move up to the next level and see how it is," said Aliviado, who will return to coach the West O'ahu junior team after the high school season is done.
