Penn defeats BYU-Hawai'i, 72-62

Ibrahim Jaaber scored a game-high 17 points as the University of Pennsylvania rallied past host Brigham Young-Hawai'i, 72-62, yesterday in a non-conference basketball game at Cannon Activities Center.
The Quakers (5-4), who beat the University of Hawai'i on Thursday, overcame a 45-39 deficit in the second half with an 18-5 run to beat the Division II Seasiders (3-5).
Austin Smylie scored on a layup with 5:56 to play as BYUH closed to 59-56, but Penn responded with baskets by Friedrich Ebede and Jaaber to regain control.
Smylie had 15 points and eight rebounds, Wu Tai-hao added 15 points and Eric Boyce 12 for BYUH.

CU WINS EIGHTH IN ROW
Zack Whiting had 22 points, 10 assists and six rebounds as Chaminade defeated Cheyney (Pa.) University, 86-70, yesterday in a non-conference game at McCabe Gym.
Playing their fourth game in 74 hours, the Silverswords (9-4) shot 51.9 percent (28 of 54) from the field to win their eighth in a row.
"We knew we would have to set the tone and control the tempo the first five minutes of the second half," said Chaminade coach Matt Mahar.
They did, expanding a 41-31 halftime lead to 15 points, then 20 with eight minutes to play.
Asaad Brown led Cheyney (1-8) with 13 points.
GOLF
KIM TIES FOR NINTH
Waiakea High freshman Kimberly Kim shot a 6-under-par 66 Friday — the best score of the final round - to finish in a tie for ninth at the Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship in Phoenix, Ariz.
Kim, 14, stumbled to a 7-over 79 in the second round, but finished at even-par 216 in the 110-player tournament that was open to female amateur golfers ages 13 to 23.
Ya-Ni Tseng, a 16-year-old from Laguna Hills, Calif. won with 69—208.
Other Hawai'i golfers: Stephanie Kono (76—217, 11th), Christine Kim (71—218, tie for 12th) and Kelly Nakashima (74—220, 16th).
