Dustin Cuizon of 'Ewa Beach and Kai Sallas of Honolulu were the top surfers at the Macy's E-Series contest last weekend.

Cuizon won the shortboard division and Sallas won the longboard division. The finals were held in wind-blown 1- to 3-foot waves at Sandy Beach.

With around five minutes remaining in the shortboard final, Cuizon received a score of 8.85 (out of 10) to clinch the victory. He received $1,000.

Japan's Masatoshi Ohno held the early lead in the final, and wound up in second place.

Jason Shibata of Pearl City was third, and veteran surfer Sean Yano was fourth.

In the longboard final, Sallas won it with a solid wave in the final minute. He received $800.

Kekoa Uemura placed second, followed by Keegan Edwards and Scotty Fong Jr.

It was the fourth of five events on the 2005-06 Macy's E-Series. The series is designed to give up-and-coming surfers from Hawai'i opportunities to compete in between events on the world tour.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR SET TO START

The Association of Surfing Professionals 2006 World Championship Tour will begin Feb. 28 at Australia.

The men's Quiksilver Pro and women's Roxy Pro will run at Queensland, Australia, between Feb. 28 and March 12.

It will be the first of 12 events on the men's tour, and the first of 10 events for the women.

Hawai'i surfers on the men's tour are Andy Irons, Bruce Irons, Fred Patacchia Jr., Roy Powers and Pancho Sullivan. Only 45 surfers from around the world compete on the WCT.

Hawai'i surfers on the women's tour are Megan Abubo, Rochelle Ballard and Keala Kennelly. Only 17 surfers from around the world compete on the women's tour.
