ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Percussion power

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Classical percussionist Evelyn Glennie has won a Grammy for her music, is as inventive a musician as they come, and has some pretty cool tattoos. She also lost much of her hearing before turning 11. The Scotland-raised Glennie is the subject of Thomas Riedelsheimer's documentary "Touch the Sound," which wisely avoids treating its subject's deafness as an ailment and instead showcases her amazing, apparently limitless talent. At 1 and 7:30 p.m. today at Doris Duke Theatre. 532-8768.

FINAL WORD

"You won't hear any whiny-actor crap from me. Eva Longoria was kissing me for four hours the other day: Tough, tough job."
