PAUL YONAMINE, volunteer senior adviser for the first year of Mayor Mufi Hannemann's administration, has resigned. Effective April 3, Yonamine will become the representative director, president and chief executive of the newly named Hitachi Consulting Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of the Japanese multinational corporation. All the corporation's consulting enterprises in Japan and Asia will be consolidated under this entity, previously known as EXSURGE. Yonamine was chairman of the Mayor's Review Committee, a committee of executive-level volunteers from the business, government, labor and nonprofit community, mandated by Hannemann to conduct an independent, top-to-bottom examination of city government, finances and operations.
DR. JOHN G. PEARCE has been named to the staff of The Queen's Medical Center's Women's Health Center. He is included, for the second consecutive year, in the Consumer's Research Council of America's 2004-2005 Guide to America's Top Radiologists, and has served on advisory committees for the National Cancer Institute, Department of Health, Department of Defense, Department of Federal Corrections and the Federal Drug Administration.
Retiree GAIL KUMASHIRO WONG and KITV news co-anchor SHAWN CHING have been elected to the board of directors of all-girl St. Francis School in Manoa. Wong, a 1955 St. Francis graduate, retired in 1991 from the Honolulu Gas Co. She has been an active volunteer with Damien and St. Louis High schools, The Queen's Medical Center, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, March of Dimes and American Diabetes Foundation. Ching, best known as a news anchorman, is also a registered lawyer, and serves on the board of the University of Hawai'i Alumni Association and O'ahu Interscholastic Association, and works with the Roosevelt High School alumni scholarship awards program.
MICHAEL P. IRISH has been elected to the board of directors of the REHAB Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. Irish, who spent four months at Rehab Hospital after a football injury threatened to render him a quadriplegic, is chief executive officer of Diamond Head Seafood Wholesale Inc.; Keoki's Lau Lau; and Halm's Enterprises Inc. He also serves as a member of the state Judicial Selection Committee, and a board member for Castle Resorts.
AL NAKANO, vice president of the Global Private Client Group for Merrill Lynch, has been named chairman of the board of governors of The Plaza Club. The 1,400-member private business person's club atop the downtown Pioneer Plaza, is an affiliate of the international Club Corp. of America.
Things that "say" Hawai'i — photographs, video and destination information — will be JACI MURAKAMI's kuleana as new "knowledge bank manager" for the Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau. She will be responsible for developing and overseeing HVCB's library of travel marketing materials promoting Hawai'i for the media, travel writers, Web sites and other public outlets. The three-year HVCB veteran was previously membership services manager.
CHAD JENSEN, general manager for Mariott's Ko Olina Beach Club, has been named chairman for the Hawai'i Committee of the American Resort Development Association. ARDA Hawai'i has 29 members, representing 74 timeshare properties statewide.
