A memorial service is at 5 p.m. at Central Union Church Monday for harbor pilot Capt. David Lyman, who died Sunday in a fall while he was working at Nawiliwili Harbor.

In addition, a memorial boat parade and scattering of ashes will be held at 10 a.m Feb. 11 off Honolulu Harbor.

Lyman, 62, of Nu'uanu, was a well-known waterman who served on the board of directors for the Hawai'i Maritime Museum and was a skipper of the voyaging canoe Hokule'a during its storm-shortened 1978 sail to Tahiti.

Lyman fell Sunday while getting off the cruise ship Island Princess, which he navigated out of Nawiliwili Harbor.

The boat parade will be held at the Honolulu Pilot Station. Space is limited to people who can make their own arrangements to ride aboard a vessel. Vessels will leave Pier 2 at 10 a.m. and proceed to the pilot station, south of the hotel buoy. All vessels must be registered by boat and owner name by 6 p.m. Thursday by e-mailing edgin16@hawaii.rr.com.

Because of security constraints, there will be no exceptions to the participation list on the day of the parade.

After the boat parade, there will be a celebration of Lyman's life at Murphy's Bar & Grill, on the corner of Nu'uanu and Merchant streets. For details, call 532-7233.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Capt. David Lyman Maritime Scholarship Fund and mailed in care of Lyle Holden, P.O. Box 4673, Honolulu, HI 96812.

Lyman is survived by his wife, Lori Ikehara-Lyman; son Belden; daughters Rebekka and Danielle; brothers Kimo and Daniel; and sister Marion Lyman-Mersereau.
