University of Hawai'i men's basketball coach Riley Wallace skipped yesterday's afternoon practice because he was undergoing precautionary medical tests on his heart.
Wallace said he went in for a regular check-up with his doctor yesterday morning, but was asked to return in the afternoon for the heart tests.
He has been advised to rest this weekend, and then return for more tests on Monday.
"I don't know what's going on, but I feel OK," Wallace said. "I went in expecting to do normal stuff, and I ended up being there all day. It's probably one of those things where they see something they don't like, so they have to do more tests to find out what it is."
Associate coach Bob Nash served as head coach for yesterday's practice with the Rainbow Warriors.
"We've been together so long, he knows everything I do in practice," Wallace said of Nash.
The 'Bows, who are 4-4, do not play a game until Dec. 16 against Northwestern State.
The team will take today and tomorrow off, and then resume practicing on Monday. Wallace said he will probably skip Monday's practice as well.
Wallace, 65, is in his 20th season as head coach of the 'Bows.
He missed two days of practice two years ago while undergoing a successful angioplasty to improve the blood flow to his heart. He also underwent a heart procedure during the 1997-98 season.
