  • KIPPEN de ALBA CHU has been named executive director of 'Iolani Palace. De Alba Chu was, most recently, assistant executive director of the Hawaii Insurers Council, and before that, officer manager and chief of staff for 13 years for state Rep. Bertha Kawakami. His international business administration experience has included studies at the American University of Paris; the Bologna Cooperative Studies Program in Italy, and the Overseas Program in Urbino, Italy.

  • Moloka'i native JOHN SABAS has been named general manager for community affairs for Moloka'i Properties Ltd., also known as Moloka'i Ranch. For the past 30 years, the Kamehameha Schools graduate has held a number of administrative City and County of Honolulu and state positions on O'ahu and Moloka'i. He was most recently deputy director, city Department of Community Services, under Mayor Jeremy Harris, and executive director, O'ahu Workforce Investment Board.

  • Seven new members of the KAKA'AKO IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION have been announced: private property owner Bruce Cody, Diamond Head Sprinkler, Edward Jones, In + Form Design Inc., Kewalo Keiki Fishing Conservancy, Shari Saiki Design Studio Inc. and Steve's Auto & Body Works LLC.

  • WILLIAM "CHEF BILL" HEUBEL has been promoted from executive sous chef to executive chef of the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa on the Big Island. Trained at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, and with experience at four-star hotels in California and Arizona, he has worked, in the mid-1990s, at Manele Bay on Lana'i and, later, Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows on the Big Island. He will oversee the resort's restaurants as well as the facility's banquet and catering operations.

  • STEVEN GOLDEN, vice president of external affairs for The Gas Co., and former KHNL-TV reporter SU SHIN, now chief communications officer for the city Board of Water Supply, have been elected president and president-elect, respectively, of the board of directors of the International Association of Business Communicators, Hawai'i chapter. Other officers include: vice president, finance, LYNNE UNEMORI, vice president of corporate communications, Hawaiian Electric Co.; vice president, communications, KRIS TANAHARA, vice president, Stryker Weiner & Yokota Public Relations Inc.; vice president, programs, LORI ABE, vice president of public relations and communications, Hawai'i Community Foundation, and LYNN KENTON, director of media relations, Kaiser Permanente Hawai'i; vice president, awards, LINDA HOWE, community relations manager, Alexander & Baldwin, and ELIZABETH AHANA, communications specialist, The Kamehameha Schools; vice president, university relations, JAMES WHITFIELD, dean of communication, Hawai'i Pacific University, and past president, ALAN TANG, president and chief executive officer, Olomana Marketing.

  • Aqua Hotels & Resorts has reorganized its operations group: JOSEPH YAMAOKA has been promoted to director of owner relations, overseeing management of condominium associations at Aqua properties; and ALBERT ROQUE, promoted to the also newly-created position of director of operations, with full responsibility for housekeeping, maintenance and system standards for all Aqua properties. The promotions have triggered promotions of several Aqua Hotel managers to general manager of their respective properties: DAVID SAITO, of the 200-room Aqua Aloha Surf; ALVIDA SURPIA, of the 94-room Aqua Bamboo & Spa, and ANTHONY SARGENT, of the 156-room Aqua Kuhio Village. Other promotions and reassignments include LENDY MA, new hotel manager of the 143-room Aqua Continental as a multi-million dollar renovation transitions the property to an Aqua boutique hotel by February. Ma will be assisted by AARON TAYLOR. SHONA PETERSEN was named hotel manager of the Aqua Aloha Surf.

  • DIANA EDWARDS, has been named divisional manager of NorthStar Alliance, overseeing all areas of the privately-held financial institution's mortgage division. She will oversee the entire mortgage operations staff for secondary, processing, underwriting, closing, funding and investor inventory. Most recently, Edwards was regional underwriting manager for the Midwest Region of Wells Fargo, and vice president of commercial lending at Gold Bank in Kansas. NorthStar, headquartered in Honolulu, operates an appraisal division, real estate division, training division and a locally owned and operated mortgage bank.
