Sketch released of shooting suspect

Police yesterday released a sketch of a suspect in the July 28 shooting of a taxi driver in the parking lot of a Pearl Ridge bank.
Driver Yu Kyu Kim, 52, was shot in the neck during a robbery in the parking lot of First Hawaiian Bank. Kim was critically wounded and continues to recover.
Police said Kim picked up the suspect in Kailua and drove him to the bank at the Pearlridge Shopping Center. The suspect robbed and shot Kim.
The suspect fled in Kim's 2006 Honda van, which was found along Likelike Highway.
The suspect is described as in his 30s, 5 feet 8 inches, 160 pounds, with a fair complexion.

MOPED DRIVER KILLED IN CRASH
KAHULUI, Maui — A 48-year-old Waiehu man died yesterday after his moped crashed on Kahului Beach Road.
Police said Dexter Nakoa was headed southeast on a blue 2005 Honda moped at about 1:55 p.m. when he apparently lost control and hit the pavement, suffering fatal injuries. Police said he was not wearing a helmet.
There have been 12 traffic deaths on Maui so far this year, compared with seven a year ago.
TWO BANK BRANCHES ROBBED ON O'AHU
Two O'ahu branches of American Savings Bank were robbed within 45 minutes of each other yesterday in what police said appeared to be unrelated incidents.
A man entered the Kapahulu branch at about 1:15 p.m., handed a teller a demand note and showed a handgun, police said. After the teller gave the man an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled, police said.
The suspect was in his mid-20s, 5 feet 10 inches, 160 pounds with a slim build. Police said the man had blond hair, a fair complexion, and was wearing a black baseball cap, blue denim long-sleeve shirt and cargo shorts.
At about 1:50 p.m. at the Kailua branch of American Savings Bank, a man handed a note to a teller and demanded "big bills," police said. That man also was given an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot, police said, noting that no weapon was seen in the second robbery, police said.
The suspect was described as 5 feet 7 inches, 180 pounds with a medium build. He had black, wavy hair, was unshaven and wore a dark T-shirt.

MACY'S ROBBED OF $57,246 IN JEWELRY
Maui police are looking for an unknown number of burglars who broke into Macy's in Queen Ka'ahumanu Center at 9:45 p.m. Monday and stole $57,246 worth of jewelry.
Police believe the burglar or burglars hid inside the store until after closing time, smashed the jewelry display case and stole Gucci, Movado and Coach watches.
