The Big Island police department is warning people of a scam by someone claiming to be collecting donations for the department's newest member, Tucker the bloodhound.

The Hawaii Police Department said it is not soliciting for Tucker. The dog is used by the department to help in searches for missing children and others in trouble.

"It's unfortunate that there are people trying to illegally profit from something that is so positive for the community," said Capt. Chad Fujiki commander of the East Hawaii Criminal Investigations Division.

Police are asking anyone with information about the scam to call Detective John Ancheta at 961-2276 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
