Santa Clara junior forward Keith DeVey, a 2002 graduate of St. Anthony from Kula, Maui, scored the winning goals in consecutive games for the fourth-ranked Broncos' soccer team over the weekend.

He was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, and was named the West Coast Conference Men's Player of the Week.

In an upset over then-eighth-ranked UCLA Friday (the Broncos were previously unranked), he scored in the 89th minute after beating UCLA goalkeeper Nate Pena to the far post from a sharp angle for a 3-2 lead.

Against Cal State Fullerton, he scored on a rebound with less than five minutes to play in a 1-0 win Sunday.

MORE MEN'S SOCCER

  • Gonzaga sophomore goalkeeper Vito Higgins (Academy of the Pacific '03 of Kailua) posted his third career shutout in a 0-0 tie against the University of Denver Sunday in the Fr. Leo Sweeney Jesuit Cup hosted by Loyola (Chicago) University.

    His two previous shutouts came as a freshman in 2003. He sat out last season with a viral condition.

    Higgins had nine saves in a 3-2 victory over host Loyola.

  • UC Irvine junior midfielder Brandon Tario (Kamehameha '03 of Honolulu) assisted on the Anteaters' second goal to help in a 3-1 win over North Florida Saturday in the UCI College Classic. His assist came in the 61st minute.

  • Brown junior goalkeeper David Semenza (Punahou '03 of Honolulu) earned his first career shutout, recording three saves in a 5-0 win over St. Peter's (N.J.) Sunday.

    WOMEN'S SOCCER

  • Oregon senior forward Nicole Garbin (Baldwin '01) scored 4:57 into overtime for a 2-1 win over Portland State Sunday.

    Garbin received a cross from the right corner and used her knee to send the ball to the near goal post from 6 yards out. It was her third game-winning goal of the season. She was a nominee for the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Aug. 30 to Sept. 5.

    Freshman forward Sarah Yoro (Mililani '05) recorded her first collegiate point on an assist, when teammate Katie Abrahamson headed Yoro's corner kick into the goal in the 51st minute.

  • Azusa Pacific junior midfielder Jolie Nitta (Mililani '02) scored in the 89th minute to lift the Cougars, ranked 10th in the NAIA, to a 2-1 win over Calvin (Mich.) in their season opener.

    Nitta scored after a corner kick was deflected into her area, and she shot the loose ball into the lower left corner with her left foot.

  • Pacific (Forest Grove, Ore.) sophomore forward Jenna Johnson-Endo (Radford '04 of Honolulu) scored a pair of goals and picked up an assist in a 10-0 victory over Mills (Oakland, Calif.) Thursday. She scored in the 31st and 39th minutes.

    Junior midfielder Brooke Hayashi (Moanalua of 'Aiea) scored in the 30th minute and freshman midfielder Kelli Ganiko (King Kekaulike '05 of Makawao) had the 10th goal in the 83rd minute.

    Hayashi added two more goals in a 7-0 win over Warner Pacific (Ore.) Monday. She scored in the fifth minute on a penalty kick and again in the 36th minute. Johnson-Endo scored in the 39th minute.

    WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

  • UC Santa Barbara sophomore setter Ashley Dutro (attended Punahou, from Honolulu) was named to the University of Florida's Aquafina Volleyball Invitational all-tournament team last weekend.

  • Pacific sophomore setter Anela Iseke (Kamehameha of Hau'ula) recorded 24 assists and 15 digs in a 30-25, 25-30, 30-26, 33-31 upset over No. 11 Cal State East Bay in the Boxer Kickoff Invitational Tournament Saturday.

    Iseke also had 22 assists and 14 digs in a 30-28, 30-26, 30-28 upset of ninth-ranked Mt. St. Joseph (Ohio) Friday.

  • Loyola Marymount senior libero Michelle Look (Punahou '02 of Kailua) had a match-high 26 digs in a 30-20, 28-30, 30-26, 30-22 win over Idaho in the LMU Four Points Sheraton LAX Classic Saturday.

    FOOTBALL

  • Tennessee senior defensive tackle Jesse Mahelona (Kealakehe '01 of Kailua, Kona) had three solo tackles, including an 8-yard sack, in a 17-10 win over UAB Saturday.

  • Washington senior inside linebacker Joe Lobendahn (Saint Louis '01 of Honolulu) had 11 tackles, including six solo, in a 20-17 loss to Air Force Saturday.

    Junior defensive tackle Donny Mateaki (Iolani '02) had five tackles, including two solo.

  • Colorado sophomore linebacker Jordon Dizon (Waimea '04) had four tackles, including two solo, in a 31-28 win over Colorado State Saturday.

    Senior defensive tackle Vaka Manupuna (Saint Louis '01 of Kihei) had three tackles.

    SOFTBALL

  • Loyola Marymount alum Lauren Hiramoto (Punahou '01 of Honolulu) and Portland State junior outfielder Kimi Daniel (Sacred Hearts '03) were named to the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for their work last season.

    Hiramoto earned a 3.22 in business administration and Daniel earned a 3.01 in psychology.
