TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

"World Series: Game 1," 1:30 p.m., Fox. Last year's series was a classic, with the Boston Red Sox finally breaking their curse. This year, two semi-cursed teams: For the Chicago White Sox it's been 46 years since playing a World Series and 88 years since winning one. The Houston Astros can top that. In their 44-season history they've never been to the World Series. The best-of-seven showdown starts in Chicago.

OF NOTE

"The Buzz on Maggie," 5:30 p.m., Disney Channel. Young bees try to out-scare each other then tackle the human art of trick-or-treating.

"Chicago" (2002), 7 p.m., NBC. This dandy Oscar-winning musical has the witty songs of Fred Ebb and John Kander and a perfect cast. Renee Zellweger is the naive showgirl, thrust into the news as a murder suspect. Catherine Zeta-Jones is a hardened convict, Queen Latifah is the warden, and Richard Gere is a flashy lawyer. The result is bright, brash and fun.

"Air Force One" (1997), 7 p.m., ABC. Maybe we really need an action-hero president. Harrison Ford stars as a president who fights back after terrorists take over his plane. It's a solid adventure.

"Without a Trace," 8 p.m., CBS. In this rerun, Jack struggles with news of his impending divorce. Vivian leads a rush to find a blind teenager, played by the talented Angela Goethals.

"My First Place" debut, 9 p.m., HGTV. This show helps first-time homeowners by giving them designers and a $3,000 budget. The opener has a likable couple; the guy, who spent 15 years in the military, is especially tickled to have his own place. The designers create a moderately interesting room.

"Desperate Housewives," 9 p.m., ABC. In this rerun, Zach is spotted and Gabrielle causes a scene while visiting Carlos.

"Saturday Night Live," 10:30 p.m., NBC. Fresh from seeing Zeta-Jones in "Chicago," viewers can catch her hosting this show. Franz Ferdinand is the musical guest.
